Youth Ballet of Saskatchewan

Under the direction of Artistic Director Michelle McMillan, Youth Ballet of Saskatchewan is a non-profit organization dedicated to nurturing young dancers through professional training, public performances, and participation in the creative process. Our pre-professional Company encourages dancers to develop their individual artistic voice while contributing to the broader choreographic landscape.

Founded in 1983 by Vera and Gennadij Adrianow, Youth Ballet of Saskatchewan was born out of a vision to bring classical ballet, modern, and folk dance to the province while offering young dancers the opportunity to explore these art forms onstage and beyond. The performing Company was revitalized in 2001 by former Artistic Director Connie Moker-Wernikowski, whose leadership helped elevate the Company’s reputation for excellence and innovation within Canada’s dance community.

From its early years, the Company set a high standard, earning invitations to perform at prestigious international events including Expo 86 in Vancouver, Expo 88 in Brisbane, Australia, the Aberdeen International Youth Festival in Scotland (2013), and the daCi (Dance and the Child International) Conference in Ljubljana, Slovenia (2024). These experiences have allowed Youth Ballet of Saskatchewan to represent both the province and Canada on the world stage.

For the 2025-2026 season, our Company comprises 21 dancers, ages 13 to 17, who continue to share their passion for dance through collaborations with local organizations such as the SHEA Awards, Regina Symphony Orchestra Chamber Players, South Saskatchewan Youth Orchestra, Halcyon Choir, India Canada Dinner, Saskatchewan's Telemiracle 40 and 42, and On Cue Performance Hub.

In addition to public performances, the Company is dedicated to educational outreach, producing special school shows that blend artistic expression with curriculum-related content from the Saskatchewan Ministry of Education’s Arts program.
