Thanks to a federal grant from The Canadian Performing Arts Workers Resilience Fund administered by Canadian Heritage, On Cue’s Incubator programming in 2022-2023 will include three professional development opportunities intended to serve a range of performing artists working in different disciplines, at different stages in their careers and both within the City of Regina and provincially.

Questions relating to any aspect of our Incubator programming are welcome by clicking here. We are here to support you, but please give us time before application or registration deadlines to do that.

Internships & Mentorships

On Cue is proud to offer two streams for direct professional development experience. Please see below for an outline of both our Internship and Mentorship program. As with all our programming, we encourage applications from artists historically underserved in Regina and across the country: Indigenous and Métis artists, 2SLGBTQ+ artists, artists of colour, newcomer artists, gender non-conforming artists, etc.

Mentorship Opportunities

Mentorships are meant to support a flexible program of professional development involving a mentor and mentee, both of whom may be at any stage of their career and involved in any aspect of the performing arts. Mentees must initiate the application but it must include a supporting letter from an individual who has the credentials and has agreed to serve as mentor. On Cue is prepared to assist artists in finding a mentor prior to the application deadline. Mentees must be based in Regina although mentors may be based anywhere in Canada. Allowable expenses include mentor fees, artist subsistence, travel, materials, etc—all of which must be justified within a budget of no more than $5000. Tuition fees and expenses related to work within academic programs are not eligible expenses.

Application deadline: September 15, 2022.

Internship Opportunities

Designed to help emerging and underserved artists jump start their careers despite the limitations created by the lasting effects of COVID, these internships will make it possible for artists to work for a large or small company for 20 hrs/week over 4 months (or the same number of hours spread out over 6 months). At a rate of $10,000/internship, these are paid placements with part of the salary supported through federal funding and the other part paid by On Cue or another hosting organization based in Regina. Applicants must be Regina-based artists and university students in an appropriate program of study or within two years of graduation. On Cue will make efforts to match successful applicants with a relevant placement as well as a university-based supervisor.

Application deadline: September 2, 2022.

The Internship and Mentorship recipients will be selected by a jury who will evaluate the applications according to the following considerations:

  1. Artistic Merit and Professional Opportunity (ex. the environment within which the project will take place, the professional experience of the mentor, the skills of the mentee are well suited to the area of mentorship and the art form)

  2. Quality of Mentorship Relationship (ex. a genuine interest from the mentor in advancing the career of the mentee; the fit between the experience of the mentor and the career goals of the mentee; a demonstrated regular communication, both formally and informally, between mentor and mentee; the nature of the partnership puts the learning experience of the mentee first)

  3. Viability of the Training (ex. the goals of the mentee are achievable in the timeframe presented, the funding amount requested is reasonable for the timeframe and professional level of the mentee, the projects worked on during the mentorship are secured and stable)

RECIPIENT REQUIREMENTS:

  • Grant offers must be accepted within two weeks and agreements signed and returned within 30 days.

  • Any changes to the training program must be submitted in writing to On Cue Performance Hub to be approved at the discretion of the Professional Development committee. Please note that these changes may result in a change to approved funding.

  • All decisions are final.

  • Grants are not retroactive and may not be applied to any portion of the mentorship that has taken place prior to approval of the grant.
