Spring Making
We had begun to dream the possibilities for a show “Mothers and Daughters Dancing” when Michelle McMillan of Youth Ballet of Saskatchewan and Ann Kipling-Brown of Dance Saskatchewan joined the conversation. My two grand daughters, Evelyn Currie (Katrina’s daughter) and Elle Wernikowski (My son Mark’s daughter) are both members of the YBS performing company. Michelle invited me to create a work for them and some of their dancing colleagues to be performed both a t the Youth Ballet Company Show in November and at “Mothers and Daughters Dancing”. I was thrilled and I thank Michelle for the opportunity.
I decided to create “Spring Making” as a sequel to “Dream Wood”. I wanted to present some hope after communicating the sad beauty of Dream Wood. “Spring Making” begins in winter with the dancers holding bare and empty tree branches. The dancers then move through a brief soundtrack of rain into the lively blooms of spring.
It has been such a treat to work with my grand daughters and their friends at Youth Ballet.
