RECREATING COMMUNITY TOGETHER

SMEA

SMEA champions the goals of Recreating Community because they believe that teachers hold a vital key to future change. By equipping educators with the right tools and funding, SMEA helps to make the classroom a place of belonging, equity, and reconciliation.

How SMEA Fits: Recreating Community

  • Funding Representation: SMEA directly supported the Black Music Matters resource (funded via MusiCounts), providing teachers with culturally relevant materials to integrate Black musical history into the curriculum.

  • Removing Barriers: Through the Resource Kit Initiative, SMEA provides no-cost instruments (like bucket drumming and boomwhackers) to schools, ensuring music is accessible to every student regardless of their socio-economic background.

  • Capacity Building: All SMEA programs are evaluated through anIDEA lens (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility) to foster a more inclusive arts environment across Saskatchewan.

Member Funding for Regional Workshops

Teachers who are SMEA members are able to lead change locally. SMEA membership provides access to Member Funding for Regional Workshops, which help them:

  • Bring the Artist to Their Community: by applying for funding to bring a specialized clinician or artist directly into their community.

  • Advance IDEA Goals: by using this funding to hire artists who specialize in diverse cultural traditions or adaptive music, advancing their capacity to teach through an equitable and inclusive lens.

Many thanks to our supporters and funders:
