The Rehearsal is a Salt and Battery Collective devised-theatre production that focuses on three different artists of different backgrounds, disciplines, and generations who are brought together to create a theatre show. Offering a glimpse into the creative processes and people involved in devising theatre as a part of a collective, the group is forced to explore themselves and their relationships. As they create, they confront their implicit biases, how they face conflict, and the ever-present cycles of power and energy. One actor, one poet, and one comedian - what could go wrong?

RISER is supported by the Government of Canada, RBC Foundation, and a community of Senior Partners. RISER Regina is presented by On Cue Performance Hub & Why Not Theatre.

“The Rehearsal is a beautiful bit of metamodern drama wherein the act of the play itself is deconstructed before looping back to a surprising act of grace; a deft exploration of the creative process executed by three individuals that clearly understand how to confront the process and 'power' through it.”

- Jeremy Ratzlaff, Filmaker

The Rehearsal by Salt & Battery Collective will resonate with anyone who has ever been tasked with navigating sticky group dynamics, whether as an artist in a creative collaboration, a participant in a school-sanctioned group assignment, a work-related project or virtually any situation where one might find themselves manoeuvring the complexities of interpersonal relationships. Gares, Koch and Reign successfully draw the audience into their world with pointedly accurate ease leaving them laughing in one moment and squirming in discomfort the next. Their ability to confront the intricacies of what it means to be in relation to others, whether through notions of identity, privilege, power structures or belief systems, while vacillating between humour and sobering truths, set them apart as radically forward-thinking and socially engaged theatre makers.”

- Dr. Shannon Holmes, University of Regina
