Arrivals & Departures: Remembered Movement Stories

May 14-15, 2022 | 2:00pm & 7:00pm | The Shu-Box, Riddell Centre

Kathryn Ricketts works with the Youth Ballet of Saskatchewan and the FadaDance Youth Company to collect stories of arrivals and departures from elder members of our diverse communities and transfer them into dynamic and colourful graphic maps that are re-interpreted through movement. These transfers from story to image to movement will uncover elements of our own stories of arrivals and departures. Through this process, this dance piece becomes a larger story of shared human experiences evoking excitement, fear, sorrow, longing and hope.

FadaDance Troupe will also be presenting two new contemporary dance works alongside this collaboration with the FadaDance Youth Company.

Rights to produce Arrivals & Departures: Remembered Movement Stories, in whole or in part, in any medium by any group, amateur or professional, are retained by the author. Interested persons are requested to contact On Cue Performance Hub, Inc.

Part One: FadaDance Youth Company

What do Moon Phases, Swarms and Ancestors look like when considered through dance?

Phasing

“The moon is always there, watching, steadfast, knowing us in our light and dark moments, changing forever just as we do. Everyday it's a different version of itself. Sometimes weak and wan, sometimes strong and full of light. The moon understands what it means to be human.  Uncertain. Alone. Cratered by imperfections.”

FadaDance Troupe

FadaDance Troupe formed in 2004 and incorporated as a non-profit contemporary dance company in 2009. Principal dancers Heather Cameron, Fran Gilboy, and Misty Wensel drive the artistic mandate of the company: to challenge the boundaries of contemporary dance on the prairies. This mandate is guided by an exploration of the unexpected and a commitment to collaboration within and outside of the organization. By presenting contemporary dance in alternative spaces and unconventional work in traditional performance venues, FadaDance Troupe is making dance accessible to a broad audience. This relationship to the audience exists in work that both invites and involves the viewer, breaking down barriers and conjuring excitement about the discipline. In this way, FadaDance Troupe not only cultivates an appreciation of the art form, they also build an enthusiastic and engaged community.

FadaDance Youth Company

In addition to operating as a professional dance company, FadaDance Troupe is dedicated to training the next generation of contemporary dancers through their work with the FadaDance Youth Company. FadaDance has created an environment where the differences and diversity of each dancer is valued and appreciated. By continuing to construct programming that successfully includes a balance of improvisation, inquiry and dance technique, a stable and nurturing experience is created for the young dancer.

The FadaDance Youth Company consists of 14 young people ranging in age from 13 to 18.  Students fully participate in all aspects of dance including creating their own choreographies.  FadaDance Youth Company is a registered non-profit corporation.

Youth Ballet of Saskatchewan

Youth Ballet of Saskatchewan, led by Artistic Director Michelle McMillan, is a non-profit dance organization. Our pre-professional performing Company fosters young artists to develop their unique voice through professional training in several dance genres, public performance, and contribution to the choreographic process.

Our 2021-2022 Company consists of 17 dancers between the ages of 13 to 17. We also have 2 emerging artists joining us this season.

The Company continues to share their love of dance and creativity by collaborating with different organizations and events such as the SHEA Awards, the Regina Symphony Orchestra, South Saskatchewan Youth Orchestra, the Halcyon Choir, India Canada Dinner, and Saskatchewan’s Telemiracle 40 and 42. We are so excited and honoured to be part of this collaboration tonight with Kathryn Ricketts, FadaDance Youth Company, and On Cue Performance Hub.
